# Venue tools

> Search the Nowadays venue catalog, read a venue's facts, and check typical rates in a city.

These tools read the Nowadays venue catalog and past quotes. They change
nothing and work with or without an event.

Three of them take an optional `event_id`, either the event's UUID or its
numeric `eventId`, as a string. With it, the tool reads the venues already on
that event or leaves them out of the results. An event you cannot read returns
the same not-found error as one that does not exist.

Catalog data has no fixed refresh date. If a venue's own email or proposal
disagrees with the catalog, the venue's own words win.

## `search_venues`

Finds up to five new hotels near a named venue or landmark. This only presents
choices. Once the person picks venues, call
[`send_rfp`](https://docs.nowadays.ai/mcp/tools/sourcing-and-proposals#send_rfp) with their names.

| Argument | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `near_venue` | string | The catalog hotel or venue to search around, by its specific name. Required. |
| `city` | string | The anchor's city, when the person named it. |
| `min_guestrooms` | number | Minimum total guestrooms in each result. Required. |
| `min_largest_room_capacity` | number | Minimum people the venue's largest meeting room must hold. Required. |
| `radius_miles` | number | Search radius around the anchor. Defaults to 3 miles, up to 25. Ignored when `max_walk_minutes` is given. |
| `max_walk_minutes` | number | The longest walk from the anchor the person will accept, up to 20. Uses real walking routes, not straight-line distance. |
| `event_id` | string | Either id of an event. Leaves out every venue already on it. |

Returns `anchor`, `radiusMiles`, `walk`, `venues`, `matchCount` and a `note`
that says how the search was measured.

If more than one catalog venue could be the anchor, the call returns an error
instead. Its first text part says to list the options. A second text part is
JSON with `options`, the candidate venues. List them by name and location, ask
the person which one they mean, then search again with a more specific
`near_venue` or `city`.

## `get_venue_facts`

Reads catalog facts about named venues: meeting rooms with capacity by setup
(banquet, classroom, reception, theater, boardroom, u-shape) and size, total
meeting space, guestrooms and suites, amenities, AV, parking, miles from the
airport, ratings, chain and brand, and website.

| Argument | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `venues` | array | Several venues to look up in one call, each `{ "name": "...", "city": "..." }`. Use it whenever the person names more than one hotel. |
| `needs` | object | The program's needs: `theater_seats`, `breakout_rooms`, `breakout_seats` and `guestrooms`. Each venue then carries a `fit` verdict per need. |
| `venue` | string | Part of one venue's name. With `event_id`, it matches a venue on that event first, then the catalog. |
| `city` | string | The city of the named `venue`, to narrow a catalog search. |
| `venue_id` | number | A catalog venue id that `get_venue_inventory` or `search_venues` returned. Overrides `venue`. |
| `event_id` | string | Either id of an event. With none of `venues`, `venue` or `venue_id`, reads every venue on that event. |

Returns `venues`, each with its facts, its `meetingRooms` (`moreRooms` counts
the ones left out), a `dashboardUrl`, and `fit` when you passed `needs`. Each
`fit` verdict is `fits`, `short` or `unknown`, with the stored figure behind it.
An `unknown` verdict means the catalog has no room data, so say that rather
than guess. With `venues`, it also returns `lookups` (what each name matched),
`notInCatalog` (names the catalog does not have, with the nearest names in that
city) and a `note`.

## `get_venue_inventory`

Reports what the catalog holds in up to 10 cities. Use it for "is there enough
in Napa" or "are there hotels that fit 200", including before there is an
event. Counts describe the catalog, not availability on your dates, and carry
no prices. For a venue already on the event, use
[`get_venue_facts`](#get_venue_facts).

| Argument | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `cities` | array of strings | Cities to check, up to 10, in the person's own words. A place is searched by the map, so "Maui, HI" covers Wailea, Kihei and Lahaina. Required. |
| `min_guestrooms` | number | Only venues with at least this many guestrooms. |
| `min_meeting_rooms` | number | Only venues with at least this many meeting rooms. |
| `min_largest_room_capacity` | number | Only venues whose largest room seats at least this many people. |
| `min_star_rating` | number | Only venues rated at least this many stars, 1 to 5. |
| `rooms_per_night` | number | The group's peak guestroom block. Orders the sample by fit. |
| `attendees` | number | The group's headcount. Orders the sample by fit. |
| `order` | string | `best_fit` (the default when `rooms_per_night` or `attendees` is given) or `largest`. |
| `venues_per_city` | number | Example venues per city, up to 15 (default `5`). |
| `event_id` | string | Either id of an event. |

Returns `cities`, each with how many venues match, how many are on the client's
preferred list, the areas the matches fall in, and a `sample` with guestrooms,
meeting rooms, largest-room capacity and star rating. Also returns
`matchCount`, `shown`, a `searchUrl` when there is an event, and a `note`.

## `get_typical_rates`

Reports what hotels in a city have quoted Nowadays clients, as aggregates
only. It never returns one hotel's rate. For a venue on the event, use
[`get_proposals`](https://docs.nowadays.ai/mcp/tools/sourcing-and-proposals#get_proposals).

| Argument | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `city` | string | The city or area, in the person's own words. Required. |
| `min_star_rating` | number | Only hotels rated at least this many stars, 1 to 5. |

Returns the pre-tax nightly group rate as `low`, `median` and `high` (the 25th,
50th and 75th percentiles) in `currency`, with `quotes`, `hotels`,
`oldestQuote` and `newestQuote`. `fbMinimumPerAttendee` gives the F\&B minimums
those hotels set per attendee, and `allInBudget` gives what clients budgeted
all-in per attendee on past events. Each part has a `kind` of `range` when
there were enough quotes to report, and a `note` that says how to present it.
