# Notification preference tools

> Read and change the signed-in person's own Nowadays email preferences.

These tools act only on the signed-in person's own preferences. No argument
names another person. They need no organization and no event.

## `get_notification_preferences`

Reads your email preferences. Takes no arguments.

Returns `digestScope`, `hotelMessageEmails` and `supportReplyEmails`. A person
who never changed a preference gets the defaults: `"stage"`, `true` and
`true`.

| Field | Values | Meaning |
| - | - | - |
| `digestScope` | `"stage"`, `"all"`, `"off"` | Which venues the daily update email covers: the venues that matter at your event's current stage, every live venue, or no daily update. |
| `hotelMessageEmails` | boolean | Whether you are emailed when a hotel writes to you. |
| `supportReplyEmails` | boolean | Whether you are emailed about a support chat reply you have not read. |

## `update_notification_preferences`

Prepares a change to your email preferences. Only the fields you send change.
Nothing is saved until
[`confirm_change`](https://docs.nowadays.ai/mcp/making-changes#confirm_change) runs after you said
yes.

| `digest_scope` | string | `"stage"`, `"all"` or `"off"`. |
| `hotel_message_emails` | boolean | `true` to be emailed when a hotel writes to you. |
| `support_reply_emails` | boolean | `true` to be emailed about a support chat reply you have not read. |

If the values you send are already saved, nothing is prepared. If a preference
changes before the confirm, the confirm changes nothing and asks you to
prepare again.
