# Group and invite tools

> Read your organization's groups and members, create and rename groups, and invite people.

These tools do what the **Users** page in the Nowadays dashboard does. Only
an admin of the organization can use them: someone with the admin role in
one of its groups. A plain member is refused, as on the dashboard.

Every tool acts in the organization resolved automatically or chosen with
[`select_organization`](https://docs.nowadays.ai/mcp/tools/events#select_organization). No tool takes
an organization id. A group from another organization is refused, even one
you administer there. Switch organizations first.

The write tools prepare a change. Nothing is saved or emailed until
`confirm_change` runs after the person said yes. See
[Making changes](https://docs.nowadays.ai/mcp/making-changes.md).

## `list_groups`

Lists the groups you administer in your organization, with their subgroups.
Takes no arguments.

Returns `groups`, each with `id`, `name` and `parentGroupId` (`null` for a
top-level group).

## `list_org_members`

Lists the people in the groups you administer. Takes no arguments.

Returns `members`, one entry per membership, each with `userId`, `name`,
`email`, `groupId`, `groupName`, `role` (`admin` or `member`) and `status`.
`pending` means the person was invited but has not signed in yet. Someone in
two groups appears twice.

## `create_group`

Prepares a new group. You become its admin. No one else is added or emailed.

| Argument | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `name` | string | The group's name, 1 to 200 characters, unique in your organization. Required. |
| `parent_group_id` | number | Make it a subgroup of this group, from `list_groups`. Omit for a top-level group. |

A name another group already holds, in any letter case, is refused with that
group's id.

## `rename_group`

Prepares a new name for a group. Its members, admins and event access stay as
they are.

| Argument | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `group_id` | number | The group, from `list_groups`. Required. |
| `name` | string | The new name, 1 to 200 characters, unique in your organization. Required. |

If the group is renamed by someone else before the confirm, nothing changes.
Prepare it again.

## `invite_to_org`

Prepares invites for people to join a group, and so your organization. The
preview lists each address and what happens to it.

| Argument | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `group_id` | number | The group, from `list_groups`. To add someone to the whole organization, use the group whose `parentGroupId` is `null`. Required. |
| `role` | string | `member` or `admin`, given to every new member. Required. |
| `emails` | string\[] | 1 to 20 addresses. Repeats, in any letter case, are sent once. Required. |
| `message` | string | A personal note in the invite email, up to 500 characters. |
| `send_email` | boolean | `false` adds people with no email. Default `true`. |

* Someone already in the group is skipped.
* A pending person is invited again and keeps their role.
* An admin of a top-level group administers the whole organization. The
preview warns when the batch would make one.
* Each invite email counts toward your organization's daily invite limit.
When the limit runs out, the remaining addresses fail and the result says
  so.
* An invite gives no event access.

The result has one row per address: `done`, `skipped` or `failed`, with why.

## `resend_invite`

Prepares the invite email again for a pending person.

| Argument | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `group_id` | number | The group they were invited to. Required. |
| `user_id` | number | The person's `userId`, from `list_org_members`. Required. |

Someone who has already signed in is refused. The resend counts toward the
daily invite limit.

## Use the dashboard for these

These Users page actions have no MCP tool yet:

* Inviting someone to a single event.
* Canceling a pending invite.
* Removing a member from a group.
* Removing someone's access to an event.
* Deleting a group.
